SE Asia Angkar Wat

Today's adventure took us to the world's largest religious monument, Angkar Wat (Temple City) built in 37 years during the 12th century. It occupies 100 acres and is a small part of the Angkar Kingdom covering 95 square miles.
Over 50k elephants were used in the construction of 2,000 temples in Angkar. Angkar Wat is the most famous of the temple sites and is surrounded by a moat.

Our travel group in front of the East entrance with guides, Nadda and Leap.

Local Cambodian costumes.

View from the third level requiring us to climb 100 plus stairs in the brutal 95 degree weather with 95% humidity. Great weather for burning carbs!

This picture is before it really started to get hot.

The building is made of sandstone shipped from a quarry 40 miles away.
It is an engineering marvel using Solar alignment practices.

- Intricate carvings are throughout the complex and you can tell their subtle difference by the individual artist.

Location:Siem Reap, Cambodia
