Europe 2014

The Kiel Canal is the busiest in the world averaging about 120 vessels per day.
Although we arrived early at 9:00 via the North Sea, we were delayed entry until after noon because of the excessive water in the locks from heavy rains and an issue with the size of our ship. Sailboats & freighters were backed up behind us.

A tug was required to assist us through the locks. The Ocean Princess is the largest passenger ship ever to pass through the locks and attracted lot's of attention.

The locks are closed.

There are two locks to handle traffic in both directions.

- We were greeted by a German Oompah Band at the locks who later boarded the ship and played for several hours. A German buffet was served.
